An Extraordinary Visit: Professor Constantine Metreweli Selects the Apogee 1000 Lite at ScanX Ultrasound

Table of Contents

At ScanX Ultrasound, we are proud to support clinicians who expect excellence from their imaging equipment. Yet every so often, a visitor reminds us just how meaningful that mission truly is. Recently, we had the privilege of welcoming Professor Constantine Metreweli to our London headquarters. He spent time evaluating several systems hands-on and ultimately chose to invest in the Siui Apogee 1000 Lite. His decision carries enormous significance for us. When someone who has shaped the very foundations of diagnostic ultrasound chooses one of our systems, it is an endorsement we value deeply.

A Leader in the Advancement of Diagnostic Ultrasound

Professor Constantine Metreweli is widely recognized as a pioneer in the field of diagnostic imaging. He authored the first published book on diagnostic ultrasound, a milestone that helped define the direction of the specialty as it matured into a core clinical tool.

Throughout his career, Professor Metreweli has combined clinical practice, academic leadership and innovative research. As Chair of Diagnostic Radiology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, he educated and mentored many clinicians who later became influential figures in medical imaging. His work has expanded the capabilities of ultrasound across a wide range of diagnostic applications.

His research includes several important contributions. He established a nomogram for fetal hydronephrosis that became a reliable reference for prenatal ultrasound assessment. He conducted Doppler ultrasound research exploring the connection between childhood nocturnal enuresis and vesicoureteric development. He demonstrated that early ultrasound can provide superior accuracy compared with clinical evaluation and standard radiography in detecting rib and sternal fractures. He has also documented rare pediatric presentations, such as the coexistence of abdominal aortic aneurysm and dysplastic kidneys, supported by long-term imaging follow-up.

In addition to his academic achievements, Professor Metreweli served in the British Armed Forces, where he helped train military radiologists. His contributions have been recognized internationally, including through Honorary Membership in the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, an honor reserved for those who have made outstanding contributions to the field.

Given his extensive experience in evaluating ultrasound technology, it was a true honor to welcome him to ScanX Ultrasound and to assist him in his selection of a new system.

Why the Apogee 1000 Lite Stood Out

After reviewing several models in our range, Professor Metreweli selected the Apogee 1000 Lite, a choice that reflects his preference for systems that combine strong imaging performance with practical value.

The Apogee 1000 Lite is designed as a cost-effective alternative to the Siui Apogee 2300. It is ideal for users who prioritize high-resolution abdominal, thyroid and small-parts imaging but who do not require the full scope of advanced cardiac features found in higher-tier systems. It is particularly appealing for small animal practitioners, mobile ultrasound providers and private scanning centers.

The system features a 15-inch tilting LCD display, a splash-resistant design and a detachable battery that offers approximately two hours of operational run time. A microconvex probe is included as standard, making it especially suitable for small animal imaging, although its versatility makes it useful across many applications.

The true strength of the Apogee 1000 Lite lies in its clarity and detail for abdominal and small-parts studies. Its transducer technology is shared with higher-end Siui platforms, which allows it to deliver image quality that significantly exceeds expectations for its price category. In many situations, it performs on par with, or even above, mid-range competitors from well-known brands.

Color Doppler performance on the microconvex, convex and linear probes is another advantage. It is sensitive, clean and free from the color bleeding that often affects lower-tier portable systems. For pregnancy imaging, the system provides crisp and detailed visualization, and its mobility makes it reliable in a wide variety of scanning environments.

Considering Professor Metreweli’s lifelong involvement in evaluating and advancing ultrasound technology, his selection of this system speaks volumes. The Apogee 1000 Lite embodies a balance of quality and practicality that aligns closely with his diagnostic philosophy.

A Meaningful Moment for ScanX Ultrasound

At ScanX Ultrasound, our mission is to connect clinicians with imaging solutions that genuinely elevate their practice. Having Professor Metreweli visit our London headquarters, explore our systems and ultimately choose the Apogee 1000 Lite is an achievement we are truly proud of. His selection underscores the value, performance and reliability that we work hard to deliver.

We extend our sincere thanks to Professor Metreweli for his visit and for placing his trust in our equipment. His contributions to the field of diagnostic ultrasound continue to influence clinical practice worldwide, and we are honored to support the next chapter of his work.
